24th August, 79 AC… That day was an ordinary day for most of Roman cities, except Pompeii. The city was not aware of what was going on. Vesuvius Volcano was getting ready for a black day. A day that blacker than black..  It would be like a trial of apocalypse.

Pompeii people didn’t know the mountain was a volcano because it hadn’t exploded for 1800 years. Actually, it showed signals referred explosion. But nobody cared. Because Pompeii people were used to those quakes of the earth.

Unlike estimated, eruptive lava of Vesuvius did not kill the poeple. Toxic gas and falling ashes down the sky occured as a result of the explosion. So, the gorgeous city turned into cemetery. Nobody was alive. Unfortunately, every living and breathing thing lost its life under mortal volcanic ash. Pompeii was buried 6 meters under ground.

The ghost city was under ground for 1500 years. It is dufficult to understand why Pompeii was not found so many years.

One day, an Italian architect Domenico Fontana discovered the buried city while he and his team were digging a water tunnel. The city was being born the second time and it was meeting the sun again. The gorgeous villas, statues, wall pictures, mosaics, temples, bazaars were preserved very well. Treasures of the city could not be stolen by the thives thanks to weather conditions. If we visit Pompeii now,  we can see water canals, infrastructure, amfi theatre, harbour, architecture, and lots of other things.

Some people believes that pompeii is a cursed city. They think there was no moral rules there, people went to Pompeii for their immoral pleasure. They say pompeii was a sin city. Whatever they think, Pompeii is perfect for archeology. I wish, you visit Pompeii and breathe there one day. Thanks for reading 🙂

Hello dear readers. My name is Alexandra May and I am a 29 year old female from New York. Actually, I’m from Massachusetts. But, I live in NY. I’m a teacher at a high school. Yes, you have read right. I’m not an archeologist. I’m crazy about it. It is my favourite hobby. Meeting an old object under the ground and touching it many years and centuries later is a miracle. It is like you are talking to the past. I love Ancient Egypt Civilization the most. So, if I write about Egypt too much, please forgive me and keep reading. See you soon.
