I love searching, reading, learning, and writing about Ancient Egypt. I admire and respect for everything about it. I have mentioned what life after death means to Ancient Egypt Civilization in my previous article. And today, I am going to mention embalming ritual.

According to the legend, the first embalming process of Ancient Egypt was done on Osiris’ body ,whom god of chaos Seth killed and broke into fourteen pieces, by God Anubis. Osiris’ wife Isis helped Anubis during embalming. Isis tramped Egypt and collected pieces of Osiris’ body. She built temples on these places where she found the pieces. Then, Anubis and Isis embalmed the body and revived Osiris. Osiris’ and Iris’ son Horus won Seth and revenged. Rebirther Osiris prefered ruling deads to living in this world. He became the judge of deads and the protector of spirits.

It was really important to preserve body after death. If it didn’t happen, spirit would wander in the sky nonsensically. If a part of a body was lacking, wooden prothesis was added to easy afterworld.

Gifts found in Ancient Egypt graves give idea about embalming. Embalming process would last nearly 70 days. But, if dead one was a pharaoh or another important person, embalming process would last ten months. In first step, embalmers used to withdraw brain in pieces from nostrils using a special tool while a priest was reading parts from The Book of the Dead. Then, they used to open paunch and take internal organs away, they used to plaster skull and put body into a mixture of sodium carbonate. They used to dry internal organs and put them into containers separately. Just heart was embalmed and was put into body again. Because spirit would  need it in the process of judgement.

At the end of this process, embalmers used to oil inside of body with some of aromatic oils, they used to rosine, and they used to wrap body with linen tapes tightly. While they were wrapping, they used to put talismans and prayers. So, body would be ready for burial. It would be put into tomb and embalming process would be over.

Thanks for reading.

Hello dear readers. My name is Alexandra May and I am a 29 year old female from New York. Actually, I’m from Massachusetts. But, I live in NY. I’m a teacher at a high school. Yes, you have read right. I’m not an archeologist. I’m crazy about it. It is my favourite hobby. Meeting an old object under the ground and touching it many years and centuries later is a miracle. It is like you are talking to the past. I love Ancient Egypt Civilization the most. So, if I write about Egypt too much, please forgive me and keep reading. See you soon.
